My Issue with Visa Processes
Some travelers may have to face obstacles when trying to travel to another country. What I mean by the previous sentence is that not everyone is automatically welcome to go to another country; they would first have to get approved, in most cases in the form of a visa.
A visa is essentially permission from a country to enter, stay, or work there for a specific period. Depending on your nationality and destination, you might need a tourist visa, a business visa, or any visa that states the exact reason you are going to a country for. Some visas are easy to get on arrival, but others require endless paperwork, embassy appointments, and weeks (or months) of waiting.
Does it really take that long? Many countries are opting to go for an e-visa system, which I think matches up with the modern world, but some places still use physical papers and transport them by post to be reviewed physically, which further extends the time it takes to get it approved. The thing I have an issue with the most is the lack of communication they have. They do not update you during the process and do not give estimates. This process has stressed me and others in the past and actually led to me missing my flights on some instances.
Governments can and should accelerate these processes. They should evolve their systems to fit the fast-moving modern world and should not rely on old, tall bureaucratic systems and old formats of post office mailing and physical paper reviews.
This process is not really an inconvenience but a system that may lead to people or other travelers to lose opportunities. Leading travelers like myself to apply extremely early to prepare for these long, unproductive times being lost.
