 What Are Esports Scholarships?

Esports scholarships are similar to the mainstream athletic scholarship, where it acts as a financial aid program offered by colleges to skilled athletes who are able to compete in varsity-level teams. These scholarships function similarly to the traditional scholarships, where they cover tuition, housing, dining, or any other educational expenses in exchange for a student to compete under the school and maintain the student's academic level.

How does an Esport scholarship work?

Colleges that have an esports program are able to recruit players internationally or locally. Esport programs are currently available for the following games: League of Legends, Valorant, Overwatch, Rocket League, and potentially more games in the future. Students who receive the scholarship are expected to practice, compete in collegiate tournaments, and keep their GPA above a certain level. Some schools offer full-ride scholarships that cover most, if not all, of the educational expenses, while other schools may provide partial scholarships to help make costs lower for the student.
